About Me

Software Developer

My hometown is Kranj, a beautiful town in the north-western part of Slovenia. I attended a local high school, Gimnazija Kranj, which I finished with distinction in 2012. The same year I enrolled in an undergraduate university study programme at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, which is part of the University of Ljubljana. I graduated in 2015 and received Dean's commendation for exemplary academic performance in the undergraduate programme. I continued my studies at the same faculty with the Masters programme, which I finished in 2019.

My field of interest is very broad. Most of my subjects at faculty covered machine learning, artificial intelligence and computer vision (some of my seminar works are linked in my works section). On the other hand, my professional work focused more on backend software development in Java, database management with Oracle and Postgres databases, DevOps, etc. I applied my skills to different fields, including demanding warehouse logistics and satellite data processing. In my free time I try to follow recent trends and state-of-the-art technologies to broaden my knowledge and learn something new.

I always tend to find some time for other activities such as hiking in the beautiful mountains of Slovenia, cycling through country roads or just simply taking a walk in nature.

Feel free to contact me, I am always looking to learn something new and improve my existing knowledge.

Oct.2018 - Oct.2020

Software developer

I was working as a software developer and system analyst at Epilog. In recent years, my focus shifted to automatic warehouse management - everything from communication with devices, to logistics and advanced optimizations. My work covered a broad range from functional design specification preparation to coding, fieldwork at customer sites, site integrations and remote support for customers after "go-live". Apart from that, I was also leading DevOps implementation, including recent migration from Perforce to Git, migration of artifacts from a custom solution to Nexus, etc. Since the start of 2019, I had a role of the scrum master for the Atlas team.

Epilog d.o.o

Jun.2021 - Present

Software developer

I returned to Epilog, to further pursue my career in the field of logistics. My position would be best described with the combination of the following roles; system analyst, technical lead for the backend of new Atlas WMS generation 5 and material flow systems (MFS) lead developer.

Coding

to make computers understand me I use

Java

As I spend most of my coding in backend development, it is the alfa and omega. In my career I was already working with Spring Boot, Apache Spark, Guava, Lombok, etc. In large scale projects Java would be my first decision.

Python

Python is my go to language when there is a need for an efficient data processing and analytics. It also serves me well, when I want to quickly automatize my work. I am familiar with scikit-learn, numpy, pandas, matplotlib, dask, etc.

Oracle & Postgres

When need arises to handle relational data, transactions and efficient querying I prefer to store my data either in Oracle or Postgres database. I acquired advanced knowledge of Oracle database and PL\SQL during my professional work.

Javascript

As Javascript is a hot topic for quite some time now, I also dipped my fingers into it lately. I try to familiarize myself with javascript to easier coordinate with a front-end team. Oh, and Reveal.js is now my go to framework for the technical presentations.

HTML & CSS

Considered only a hobby, I use HTML & CSS only when I really need to; such as creating my personal website or preparing some data visualizations.

My skills

while tackling challenges in the past, I got familiar with

Optimizations

I always found optimization problems as a great challenge, as it requires you to think outside of the box. It is also crucial to get well acquainted with problem domain, which provides you with new insights.

Logistics

Being the developer of one of the leading WMS I have not only got familiar with keywords such as WMS, ERP, TMS, but also how to handle everything from communication with automatic devices to guiding picker through the warehouse.

CI & CD pipelines

Committing code to one of the VCS (Git), automatically executing unit and integration test, publishing build results to the artifact repository (Nexus) and deploying with a single click is something that every developer should wish for.

Working in a team

I am a teamplayer and I always prefer working in a team, because sharing knowledge and opinions between team members can result in great benefit for everyone. Thus I am comfortable both in the mentor or trainee role.
